Palmer Adult Choir with Benjamin Hutto in 2005

Founded in 1959, the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) is a nonprofit music-education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. In addition, ACDA strives through arts advocacy to elevate choral music’s position in American society.

Thus speaks the website of what is surely the largest organization devoted to the art of choral music in all the world, and every two years, the ACDA holds its National Convention. In 2007, it will be held in Miami, Florida, and as a part of its schedule of clinics, workshops, concerts, exhibitors, and so much more, is Music In Worship: A Celebration of Divine Grace and Peace with the participating choir being the Adult Choir of Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church in Houston, Texas!

For any choral director in this country, being selected to perform at the ACDA National Convention is equivalent of being in the Super Bowl, and for the Palmer choir, this invite is singular in that, if I understand correctly, we will perform more times (four, to be exact) than any other choir at the event. Our program is included by name in the three convention schedule tracks, and we will be singing at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Miami.
